AFCON Qualifiers: I am ready for Lesotho – Iwobi
Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, says he is ready to help Nigeria maintain an unbeaten record in their final African Cup of Nations qualifier match against Lesotho today.
Iwobi missed Saturday’s 1-0 win against the Squirrels of Benin Republic after testing positive for COVID-19 prior to the match.
The Everton man tested negative after another PCR test was conducted at Clina Lancet Laboratories in Victoria Island, Lagos on Monday.
Iwobi has since been cleared for selection for the Lesotho match at the Teslim Balogun Stadium later today by the Confederation of African Football, CAF.
Speaking in a video uploaded by the Nigeria Football Federation on Twitter, Iwobi said: “I just want to say thank you to everyone showing me love and support in this difficult time.
“Your love has been quite overwhelming and I really appreciate it. I had to respect the Fifa and CAF protocols by isolating in my room…
“It wasn’t easy especially knowing when you have no symptoms and that you’re OK but you don’t know nowadays and the main thing is that I’m healthy and I’m ready to go for the last game.
“I would like to say thank you to the NFF president, he took me in like a son, made sure I was able to isolate comfortably so thank you to him. Also to my teammates, to the staff, to the coach, always checking up on me and making sure I’m OK.
“So I’m ready to go for the last game, let’s see if we can stay unbeaten. Up Super Eagles.”
The Super Eagles hope to maintain an unbeaten run in the Group L of their AFCON Qualifiers when they face bottom-placed Lesotho this evening.
