Lagos announces partial closure of Third Mainland Bridge
The Lagos State Government, on Wednesday night, announced that the Third Mainland Bridge will be partially closed to traffic for 19 hours.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Transportation, the closure is to enable the removal of the last expansion joint on the Oworonshoki bound lane of the bridge.
The lane will be totally shut to vehicular movement from midnight on Saturday, 6th February 2021, till 7p.m on Sunday, 7th February 2021, the ministry said.
“The closure is vital to enable the contractor move their equipment to the Oworonshoki bound lane within the given period without any interruption by vehicular movement on the bridge,” the ministry added.
For ease of movement, the ministry urged “motorists from Ogudu, Alapere and Gbagada are advised to use Ikorodu Road, Jibowu and Yaba as alternative routes, while Iyana Oworosoki-bound traffic from Lagos Island, Iddo, Oyingbo, Adekunle and Yaba should use Herbert Macaulay Way, Jibowu and Ikorodu Road as alternative routes.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde assured commuters that Traffic Management Personnel have been deployed along the affected routes to minimise and address any traffic impediments during the closure.
The State Government appealed for cooperation by residents as the ongoing repair work on the bridge is for the safety of all and sundry, noting that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration will not relent in ensuring safety on Lagos roads.@jidesanwoolu#LASG #ForAGreaterLagos
