The police, on Tuesday, arraigned a motorcyclist, Mansur Abdullahi, before a Lugbe Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly snatching a dispatch motorcycle belonging to a company.
Abdullahi, 29, a resident of Tipper Garage, Lugbe, Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft.
The Prosecutor, Olatunde Ojaomo, told the court that the complainant, Manasseh Danjuma, a dispatch rider attached to Addy Logistic Company, Abuja, reported the matter at Lugbe Police Station on Dec. 12, 2020.
Ojaomo said that the defendant and four others, now at large, on the same date, criminally snatched the company’s Bajaj motorcycle from the complainant on Airport road by Dan Oil filling station.
He said that with the aid of the tracking device installed on the motorcycle, it was traced to the house of one Abduliazak Haruna of Gosa Toge village, Airport road, Abuja.
Ojaomo said that the defendant ‘smartly’ rode the motorcycle to Haruna’s house before the tracking device got disconnected.
He said that all efforts made to recover the motorcycle had proved abortive.
According to him, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Judge, Mohammed Surajo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000, with a surety in like sum.
Mohammed said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, with reasonable means of identification.
He also said that the surety must submit his valid identification card.
The judge, thereafter, adjourned the case till March 16, for hearing.
