Nigerian author does what no other African could do in China

A Nigerian author, Charles Onunaiju, has won the 10th special Book Award Book of the Peoples Republic of China.

Onunaiju, who is the Director of the Centre for China Studies, Abuja, won the award along with 13 others worldwide, after a rigorous review of entries by the “Special Book Award of China Jury Committee.”

This was contained in a statement on Friday in Abuja, by the Secretary,CCS, Mallam Hussaini Kwaifa.

Onunaiju, author of three books and several articles in academic journals and newspapers, is the only African winning the award in this year’s edition.

His book, “China’s struggle for modernization: from Revolution to Reform”, published in February, this year earned him the award, according to a letter from the China State Administration of Press, Publication Radio, Film and Television.

It said that the special Book award of China is a national-level award established in 2005, meant to recognize foreign writers for contributions they have made in introducing and publishing books on China as well as in promoting cultural exchanges.

The letter also conveyed an invitation to Onunaiju for the award ceremony which will hold in the Great Hall of the People, (China State House) on August, 23, where he will be presented with a certificate, medal and a prize, along with 13 other winners.
