Mechanic remanded over alleged cult activities on River Benue bank
Musa was charged with conspiracy and membership of an unlawful society.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Ajuma Igama, did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction.
She ordered the remand of the defendant at the Makurdi Correctional Centre, and adjourned the case to March 3, for mention.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Ato Godwin told the court that the defendant was arrested on Jan. 10.
“Hoodlums suspected to be cultists assembled at the bank of River Benue in a bid to carry out an attack on their rival group.
“Operatives swung into action after receiving the information, and the defendant was arrested, while others took to their heels,” he said.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the defendant admitted being a member of Black Skull confraternity.
“He mentioned other members of his group now at large,” Godwin said.
He said that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
According to him, the alleged offences contravene Sections 97 of the Panel Code of Benue State, 2004, and Section 11(2) of the Abduction, Hostage Taking, Kidnapping, Secret Cult, and Similar Activities Prohibition Law of Benue.
