Full Winners’ List: ‘Living in Bondage’, ‘This Lady Called Life’ win big at BON Awards

Charles Okpaleke’s ‘Living in Bondage: Breaking Free’ and Kayode Kasum’s ‘This Lady Called Life’ emerged the biggest winners of 2020 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, which took place at Ado-Ekiti, over the weekend.

Asides clinching the Movie of the Year Award, Living in Bondage also bagged the Director of the Year award for Ramsey Nouah’s, movie with the best use of special effects and movie with the best use of makeup.

‘This Lady called Life’ also took home the movie with the Best Screenplay Award, Best use of Food on a movie award and Movie with the Best Production Design Award.

The two movies also jointly won the Movies with the Best Editing Award. Other winners at the travelling, pan-Nigerian awards include Bling Lagosians, Unroyal, The Sessions, ‘Dear Affy’ among others.

Matilda Lambert, a thespian and film producer who won two awards, said she had seven nominations at this year’s BON Awards and was happy to be a winner in two categories.

“So far I have won two, Best Sound in a movie for Unroyal and best use of Costume in a movie. Unroyal the movie is a fantastic film.

“Also having all the A-list actors on set, the likes of Pete Edochie, Shaffy Bello, Blossom Chukwujekwu, IK Ogbonna, Okon Lagos, Linda Osifo and a lot of others was a great deal.

“I’m very grateful tonight that my hard work, my sleepless nights, my money, resources, time all put into making this great film actually paid off.

“It’s one thing to have a wonderful film and it is another thing for the movie to be recognised. I’m very grateful,” she said.

Abiola Adebayo who won the award for Best Actress in a supporting role said it was an honour to be recognised and appreciated.

“I came in happy and not particularly expecting to win. The fact that I was nominated means a lot to me.

“It means people are seeing me and noticing my work. I got two nominations and even though I was expectant it wasn’t assured.

“Almost all of us in that category are colleagues and friends. Being in the entertainment industry has not been easy, it’s tough and rough. But it has also been good at the same time.” she said.

  6. Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Yoruba) – Femi Adebayo/Kelvin Ikedua – Lucifer

  8. Best Actor in a Leading Role (Igbo) – Francis Duru – Mboputa
