Fernandes vows to do much better with next penalty for Man Utd
After missing his first penalty in 12 kicks, Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes has vowed to do better with next one for his club.
The Portuguese playmaker was presented with the opportunity to give the Reds an all-important 2-1 lead against Newcastle United on Saturday but squandered the chance.
Fernandes told MUTV of his future penalty plans, having seen a run of 10 successes for the Red Devils brought to a close: “I’m human, it happens.
“I don’t want it to happen again, I didn’t want it to happen [against Newcastle].
“The keeper did well, I didn’t do the right things. I studied the keeper but I didn’t shoot the ball the way I want, but the keeper deserves credit.
“I need to do much better on the penalty and the next one I will do for sure.”
However, Fernandes made amends moments later by scoring the all-important second goal with a sublime finish from a difficult angle after a sleek pass from Marcus Rashford.
The 26-year-old went on to return the favour by setting Rashford up for the fourth goals as the away team cruised to a 4-1 win against Newcastle.
Fernandes is now keen to do more when his Old Trafford outfit requires him to step-up for a spot-kick.
