UFC: Cormier tips Israel Adesanya to crush Jon Jones

Published

Daniel Cormier has pulled his weight behind Nigeria’s Israel Adesanya to defeat UFC’s No 1 pound-for-pound fighter Jon Jones when both fighters face-off at the octagon.

Although the fight has not yet been fixed, Cormier is also backing calls for UFC president Dana White to make the fight and believes the Nigerian would come out on top against Jones.

The bad blood between Adesanya and Jones’  has intensified recently after a heated argument between them sprang on Twitter where the two traded deeply personal insults.

Jones heavily criticised Adesanya’s portrayal of an African man by comparing to it to McGregor’s rise in Ireland.

He tweeted: ‘McGregor came and made Ireland look like royalty. You came and made African men look soft. Get the f*** out of here.’

Daily Mail reports that the bad blood between the duo has led for calls for their feud to be settled inside the octagon.

Chatting to MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, Cormier said: ‘It’s the time. Right now is the time.’

Helwani responded: ‘You can’t risk having Jon Jones lose his streak to some jabroni. You can’t. You lose it to Izzy, potentially, and now the torch has been passed.’

Cormier then said: ‘Wait, so you’re picking Izzy? You just said… so you’re picking Izzy too? You’re picking Izzy too? Because I’m picking Izzy! You’re picking Izzy too, I’m picking Izzy.’

Jones and Adesanya have long spoken about fighting each other, even though the former light-heavyweight champion vacated his belt and is preparing to make his debut two weight divisions above the Nigerian-born New Zealander.

And their rivalry has intensified since Adesanya’s impressive second-round TKO win over Paulo Costa at UFC 253 last month.

Jones even accused the middleweight champion of growing breasts’ after seeing the misshapen appearance of one his pectoral muscles.
