Never question God in the midst of crisis - Pastor Adeboye on son’s death

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has narrated how he “calmed down” after he narrowly escaped death in what could have been a ghastly auto crash.

A video showing a little boy, Oreofeoluwa Babalola, pleading with his mum not to beat him but rather calm down had recently gone viral.

Adeboye spoke on Friday during the 68th Annual Convention of the church which held virtually because of the lockdown occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic.

During the programme themed, ‘Wonderful’, Adeboye preached on the topic, ‘Seven Wonderful Things About God’, saying the size of God is wonderful, His love, mercy, glory, name, blood and anger are all wonderful.

The 78-year-old preacher said,

“When you find yourself under sudden attack and there is nothing else you can do, at least, you can shout the name Jesus. Wonderful name!”

He narrated,

“Some of you will remember my testimony which was shared with you by my driver of those days. One day we were going to Ilorin, that was several years ago, I think 1981.

“And in those days, there was this very narrow bridge between Ogbomoso and Ilorin. There was somewhere along the road so narrow that only one vehicle at a time could pass. So, if you get there and you find another vehicle coming from the other side, you stop because the bridge was so narrow it cannot take two vehicles at the same time.

“And we were going, we were already on the bridge. The bridge was over a very deep river. And then a trailer was coming from Ilorin. Whether the driver didn’t see us or his brakes failed, I never find out. But he just kept on coming. And we had a choice – either die by head-on collision or go into the river and drown; the river was big.

“There was no time and we couldn’t think of anything. Both my driver shouted ‘Jesus!’ When you are in real trouble, you don’t call the name gently. Somehow, I mean somehow, we met at the middle of the bridge and we passed. The trailer had taken every bit of the bridge and yet we passed. How? I don’t know.

“When we got to the other side of the bridge, we were so badly shaken that my driver parked. I didn’t ask him to park but he couldn’t continue driving. He parked and he was shaking like a banana leaf. Fortunately, he didn’t look back because I was shaking more than he was shaking.

“After sometime, by the time he spoke, I had calmed down. And he said, ‘Daddy, what happened?’ And I said God expanded the bridge. And he kept on saying, ‘Wonderful! Wonderful!’ Till we got to Ilorin, he kept on saying ‘Wonderful!’ And I said that is His name.”
