Members of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, on Friday protest the ‎abduction of two nurses of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Edo State.

The nurses carried placards during the peaceful demonstration, calling on the Edo State government and the security agencies to ensure the release of their colleague.

They also expressed worries about the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, especially in Edo State.

It was gathered that two nurses of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital were abducted by unknown gunmen on Wednesday in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.

The victims, both of whom were said to be nursing mothers and identified as Osemelu Lydia and Ovbiosu Bose, were abducted along Oluku road in Benin, the state capital.

Reports say they were on their way home, after picking up their children from school, when they were whisked away in a jeep.

The abductors ‎were yet to make any contact with victims’ families.

No fewer than four nurses of the teaching hospital have been reportedly kidnapped ‎this year.
