Fire guts UCH in Ibadan, emergency ward completely destroyed
Latest report informs that the Accident and Emergency Ward of the University College Hospital, Ibadan was gutted by fire on Tuesday, July 26, 2016.
It was gathered that the tragic fire outbreak destroyed the multi-million naira building and equipment.
Eyewitnesses said the fire began with a loud explosion, with patients running in different directions as a result of the commotion created by the explosion.
However, Public Relations Officer in the hospital, Deji Bobade, however told our correspondent that an electric spark caused the fire and that the ward might be relocated to another building as a result of the damage cause by the fire.
An eyewitness, Mrs. Dolapo Haastrup, said, “I was waiting at the side of the building for a relative who was inside when the explosion occurred. It was a loud one and I understand that it was a gas explosion.”
When our correspondent got to the scene, a huge crowd, which included relatives of patients in the hospital, relatives of health workers in the hospital and sympathizers, was seen gathered at the hospital premises.
