COVID-19: Team lauds unhindered transportation of agricultural produce through Nasarawa/Benue borders
The Joint Technical Task Team set up in Nasarawa by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, to ensure unhindered movement of food and agricultural produce, has lauded compliance at the Nasarawa/Benue borders.
Mr. Bola Longe, Commissioner of Police in the state and Chairman of the team, expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance on Monday, during a visit to some border towns between Nasarawa and Benue state.
Longe, represented by Mr. Jericho Jonathan, a senior Police officer, said the visit was to assess compliance with the federal government’s directive on the free and unhindered movement of livestock and agricultural produce in view of the interstates restriction.
He said that the police command had issued a signal to all its personnel to ensure the unhindered movement of agricultural produce across the state.
The commissioner said the Police would not relent to sanction anyone found sabotaging government’s efforts by flouting in any way, the directive on the free movement of food and agricultural produce.
Dr. Ofumaka Ikechukwu, Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Nasarawa State, said the team would also visit the state’s borders with other states to ensure full compliance.
Ikechukwu maintained that the team’s mandate of ensuring unhindered transportation of food, livestock and other agriculture produce was to avert the food crisis in the country.
The Newsmen reports that members of the team were drawn from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), NUJ, NURTW and farmers.
