The All Progressives Congress, Ondo State chapter, has threatened to drag Gov. Olusegun Mimiko before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
According to the opposition party in Ondo State, they would take the action if Gov. Mimiko failed to explain to the public his role in the diversion of N15bn accruable to the state.
The money, the APC in statement issued by the state chapter’s publicity secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, on Monday, claimed was part of the state’s share of the Excess Crude Account.
It claimed that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan ordered its release to Mimiko for “personal purposes” in 2012.
The party said the N15bn was used for Mimiko’s re-election campaign.
The party alleged that Mimiko received the funds on November 15, 2012 from the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria through bank accounts of his cronies.
“The action of the Governor is totally against due process. It was deliberately orchestrated to siphon public funds, which has gone into private pockets with no records of it in the state.
“We hereby give the governor seven-day ultimatum to address the people of the state on the diverted N15bn and refund the money to the treasury of Ondo State.
“Failure to meet these conditions within seven days, we will have no option than to write petitions to the EFCC to help the people of Ondo to recover the N15bn from Mimiko and his friends,” Adesanya said.
