LAUTECH Teaching Hospital threatens to mass bury unclaimed corpses in two weeks
The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology [LAUTECH] Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State has threatened to conduct a mass burial for corpses left unclaimed by their owners in its morgue.
The hospital has thus issued an ultimatum of 14 days to relatives to claim the remains of their loved ones.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Ayodele Adeyemo, on Tuesday, explained the move was a routine decongestion of the morgue and was not connected to ravaging coronavirus pandemic.
“The management of Lautech teaching hospital Osogbo hereby call on the members of the public especially those who have corpses in the mortuary unit of the hospital to come and remove them within the next two weeks of this announcement.
“This is to ensure decongestion of hospital morgue which is now filled to the brim with no room for the fresh bodies. We, therefore appeal that relatives, who have corpses in the mortuary unit LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo, should come and remove them.
“Please it should be noted that the congestion of the morgue is a routine exercise, has nothing to do with the current pandemic COVID -19 infection. All Bodies not collected within two weeks of this announcement maybe packaged for mass burial,” the management said.
