Is banishment still relevant? You need to see this
Photos of a young man being followed by a crowd believed to be seeing him out of the community on banishment emerged online on Friday.
Facebook user Anele Nwenenda shared the story on Friday, indicating that the man was banished from Ogbogoro community Rivers State after confessing to killing.
The young man with native pot killed a fellow youth in Ogbogoro. On that note, the youths and Elders of the Community decided to Banish him after hearing his confessional statement, Nwenenda wrote as caption to the photos.
“He Confessed that he has been responsible four the kidnapping of the missing children in the community,” one witness said.
Commentators on the post maintained that banishment is an outdated form of punishment and so the man should be punished according to the constitution of Nigeria.
But the big question is is the punishment relevant at this age?
