Imo police rescue kidnap victim, arrest suspect
The operatives of Operation Stop- And – Search launched by the Imo state government has rescued a kidnap victim simply identified as Akunaebuaji.
The businessman was kidnapped at Eziama Osuama in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent learnt that his abductors had established contacts and demanded several million as ransom.
A kinsman of the victim told our correspondent that the kidnappers refused to free their victim after his business associates at Ekezeala timber market paid N4m as a ransom.
The kidnappers after receiving the N4m ransom made a fresh demand for N2m.
Our correspondent gathered that it was in the process that the police operatives got intelligence that the abductors were keeping their victim at a hideout at Ugiri in the Isiala Mbano LGA.
Our correspondent was further told that the operatives burst the den, rescued the victim and arrested one of the kidnappers.
When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said that the victim who was rescued unhurt had been reunited with his family.
He said that the arrested suspect had been transferred to the command headquarters in Owerri.
Ikeokwu said:
“Yes, the victim has been rescued and he has been reunited with his family. One suspect was arrested and he is with us at the command headquarters in Owerri.”
