Lifebank founder calls for investment in medical consumables
The founder of Lifebank Nigeria, Temie Giwa-Tubosun, on Saturday, called for more investment in medical consumables in the country.
Giwa-Tubosun, who founded Lifebank, an organisation set up to tackle the problem of blood shortage in the country, made the call on her verified Twitter account.
She tweeted:
“Now that we are talking about the health system, this is what it needs, we need to invest in the constant flow of medical consumables.
“Maintenance of equipment, payment infrastructure and support tech so the workers we have aren’t overwhelmed, maintenance of buildings and safe medicines.
“Some of the things the health system desperately needs include paying workers more or building new buildings.
“But I’m afraid that’s where this conversation will go nevertheless.
“Doctors and Nurses will rather have personal protective equipment (PPE) than hazard allowance, because even if we 10X your allowance, it means nothing when you are dead.
“It is a public relations mistake to constantly focus on allowance and fees! Tell the country you need protection and a working health system.”
Lifebank in partnership with the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) are carrying out a drive through COVID-19 test at the institute in Yaba, Lagos.
