15 wounded in renewed kingship tussle in Delta’s Uzere community
No fewer than 15 people were left wounded in renewed hostilities by supporters of two crowned traditional rulers of Uzere Kingdom in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Police in the state confirmed several persons were injured in the clash.
While the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed that the command had restored calm to the troubled community, reports said no fewer than 15 people sustained various degrees of injuries from both factions.
Uzere, an oil-rich community of Isoko, has been embroiled in lingering crisis over the traditional ruler seat.
“Sunday’s attack was in a bid by one of the factions to dethrone one of the kings, a situation, that resulted in sporadic shooting by youths loyal to the two kings,” a source said.
“Six of the victims were reportedly sustained life-threatening gunshot injuries during the clash. And about eight persons were also macheted.
“The State Government was said to have summoned an emergency meeting between leaders of the two factions in the community to resolve the crisis.”
