Foundation donates books to Fountain University, Osogbo
A US-based NGO, Prof. Toyin Falola Foundation, on Thursday donated books to the Fountain University, Osogbo, to promote African History studies and academic excellence.
The Foundation, established by a US-based professor of History and African Studies, Prof. Toyin Falola, made the donation as part of efforts aimed at promoting academics and reviving African History and studies.
Prof. Michael Afolayan, who led a donation team at the presentation of the books to the university’s management, said the Foundation had done a lot in the area to promote education and academic excellence.
“This is the heart of Toyin Falola being expressed; his love for humanity, his love for academics and his love for his people, not just in Nigeria, but all over the world; he does this everywhere,” Afolayan said.
He said Falola Foundation had made educational donations up to the tune of millions of American dollars, adding that the Foundation also donated an e-library to Ambrose Alli University, while spending millions of dollars on scholarship.
According to him, the donation by the Foundation were due to the founder’s love for formal education, which he believes is the first step to creating a brighter future.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Amidu Sanni, thanked the Foundation for its commitment to education which, would encourage other people of goodwill to follow suit.
Amidu urged Nigerians to encourage and celebrate Nigerians who are philanthropists when they are still alive.
He said, the idea of celebrating benefactors after their death is almost meaningless.
“Fountain University will be giving best student in History and African studies award in Professor Toyin Falola’s name to celebrate him, because he deserves to be announced in Nigeria while he is still around.
“The idea of celebrating people after their death is meaningless. Let them be acknowledged while still alive; not in terms of money, but perpetuating their legacy,” Amidu said.
