Karim Benzema’s double for Real Madrid may not have secured a win for the Spanish giants in the match against Borussia Dortmund, but they were enough to help him join the list of footballers who have scored 50 goals in the UEFA Champions League competition.
Benzema joined the likes of Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry, former Real great, Raul Gonzalez and fellow Madrista, Cristiano Ronaldo, as some of the other players to have netted at least 50 goals in the competition.
Zinedine Zidane, coach of the capital city club must have thought his wards had the game within their grasp, but Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus had other plans as they frustrated the home team with their respective goals as the game wore out.
But beyond the scoreline, Benzema is now among the top goalscorers in the elite European club football competition.
