The dreadful state of UNN school hostels in photos
The dreadful state of hostels in Nigeria’s first full-fledged indigenous and first autonomous tertiary institution, The University of Nigeria Nsukka, will make one wonder if the institution is gradually setting a “death trap” for its students.
For a University that brags of being the first land-grant university in Africa and one of the five elite universities in Nigeria, the dilapidated and abandoned state of its hostels will leave goosebumps on the skin.
Judging by the photos posted by TheCable, UNN male hostels in its Nsukka campus need urgent interventions “unless there are plans to consolidate them as prisons.
While there are just two hostels housing the male students, the hostels have exceeded its useful life and what remains is decayed infrastructures gradually giving way for collapse and rooms overflowing with students.
Sadly the convenience facilities are not only unhealthy for the thousands using them but also dangerous not have been sealed off.
Little wonder a majority of the students end up staying off campus while those who cannot afford the cost are left to fight for the limited resources in the hostels; particularly space, water and light.
