Nigeria’s Folake Olowofoyeku’s role in new CBS sitcom, ‘Bob Hearts Abishola’, sparks Twitter debate [Video]
American broadcasting network CBS has released some of the first trailers for its new comedies and dramas as part of its series orders for the 2019-2020 season.
Among the trailers released is Chuck Lorre’s sitcom ‘Bob Hearts Abishola’ starring Nigerian-British actresses Folake Olowofoyeku and Shola Adewusi, and American comic actor Billy Gardell.
‘Bob Hearts Abishola’ follows the story of a middle-aged businessman from Detroit (Billy), who, after having a heart attack, unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse Folake), a Nigerian immigrant, and sets his sights on getting her to give him a chance.
One of the writers on the show, Gina Yashere tweeted Thursday that Bob Hearts Abishola shows “the first Nigerian family on an American sitcom.”
The preview released offers sneak peeks into the new series scheduled for the network’s fall sessions.
Since the release of the trailer, the name Abishola has sparked a debate among some Nigerians on Twitter trying to explain the difference between the Yoruba name ‘Abishola’ and the more popular ‘Abisola’ they are familiar with.

ABISHOLA means “Born to be/provide wealth” as different from ABISOLA which means “born into wealth”. it is not bad spelling/pronunciation. https://t.co/YQBv6ssTSO

Just to add: ‘Abishola’ – ‘A-bí-se-o-lá’ – is an interesting Yoruba name. I’ve never met/seen anyone with that name though. Only Abisola (A-bí-sí-o-lá).
Anyone know any Abisholas?

I bet Abisola is different from Abishola. Heard a girl being called Shola, Turned out she’s Abishola. There’s no misspelling in Yoruba. Everything have a meaning

Dude on Folashade and folasade, I can agree. But on what Tolu is describing, there are two different pronunciation and meaning. Abisola is someone born into wealth. Abishola is someone born as wealth to the family. Make be u should a cue from Ogun which can pronounce 6 ways

Am just hearing Abishola in my entire life. It’s Abisola. Even if there is, it’s all same meaning. I bet to disagree!

They both have different meaning. Abisola(born into wealth) while Abi-se-ola(Abishola)(born to make/do wealth)
