From Hajj to prison, Nigerians plead Zainab’s case
Zainab Aliyu departed her home country Nigeria in December 2018 to perform one of her religious rights, the lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia with no knowledge of the fate that awaited her there.
On arrival at the airport in Saudi Arabia, she was separated from the rest of her family with the promise that she would return to them shortly. But since December 26, 2018, till date that is yet to happen, the family would later learn she had been detained on the grounds that she possessed drugs, tramadol.
However, while in detention in Saudi Arabia, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria, received a petition from her father, seeking a probe into his daughter’s ordeal.
Following the petition, the NDLEA Commander in charge of MAKIA launched an investigation, which culminated in the arrest and arraignment of seven staff of the airport.
However, what Nigerians are yet to come to terms with is why the Nigerian government has not handed the syndicate over to the Saudi government in exchange for the release of allegedly innocent Zainab.
Nigerians have taken to various social media handles to cry out on behalf of Zainab, this not excluding her family members, the latest being her sister who in a video is seen narrating what led up to Zainabs detention.
See Nigerians’ reactions below:

Yesterday I wrote about how Philippine President Duterte did everything to ensure an innocent Filipino woman escaped death penalty in UAE.
Today it’s Zainab from Nigeria about to be killed in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabian authorities must free Zainab Habibu Aliyu. Her ordeal shows everything wrong with death penalty. Let us raise our voices, until Zainab is free. No one knows who can be the next victim of such injustice. #FreeZainab #Nigeria #ZainabIsInnocent @MBuhari pic.twitter.com/5ccZEO6rue
