An 80-year-old Colombian man, Quesada Vanegas Ricardo Alfonso, was found dead inside his hotel room at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Festac Town, Lagos State.
The discovery was made on May 1, at about 3:45 p.m., in Room C85 on the hotel’s 8th floor.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday. He said officers from the homicide unit were quickly sent to the hotel after the police received a distress call.
“Preliminary investigations show that the man had been staying in the hotel for more than four months,” Hundeyin said.
He also said there were no signs of violence or foul play on the body.
The late Mr Alfonso’s remains have been moved to the Mainland General Hospital morgue in Yaba, where an autopsy will be carried out to find the cause of death. The police have also started a coroner’s inquest, as required by law.
As part of the investigation, some hotel staff were briefly detained by the police for not keeping proper guest records. They were released after being questioned.
The Lagos State Police Command has promised to carry out a full investigation to uncover what led to Mr Alfonso’s death.
