A 75-year-old Nigerian woman, Adizatu Dazumi, from Edo State, has died during the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

Dazumi, who was from Jattu Uzairue in Etsako West Local Government Area, passed away on Monday at the King Fahad General Hospital in Makkah after a short illness.

The Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Musah Uduimoh, confirmed her death on Tuesday.

“She became sick shortly after performing Tawaaf around the Kaaba and was taken to the hospital on Sunday,” Uduimoh said. “Sadly, she died the next day.”

According to him, Dazumi was buried in Makkah on the same day, in line with Islamic rites. Her family in Jattu Uzairue has been informed.

Uduimoh sent his condolences to the family and assured the public that the board is doing everything possible to care for the health and safety of all other pilgrims.

Thousands of Nigerian Muslims are currently in Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam.
