The Labour Party in Chikun and Kajuru Local Government Areas of Kaduna State has officially merged its structures into the Young Progressives Party.
The announcement came on Sunday in Chikun, where over 500 LP executive members, spanning from ward to local government levels, formally resigned their membership to join the YPP.
Receiving the decampees, the National Organising Secretary of YPP, Hon. Williams Moses, and the state Chairman, Mall. Mikailu Abubakar, commended the move, describing it as a significant moment of renewed hope not only for the people of Chikun and Kajuru but for the entire state.
Moses explained that the decision to switch parties was motivated by a genuine desire to serve their communities more effectively through a credible platform like the YPP.
He urged the people of Kaduna State to consider YPP as their preferred party, emphasizing that it presents a trustworthy alternative capable of guiding Nigerians toward “the promised land; the land of unity, service to the people, and accountability.”
Speaking for the decampees, the former Labour Party Chairman in Chikun, Hon. Yerima Ahmed, highlighted the political significance of Chikun and the rationale behind joining YPP.
Ahmed said: “Our decision to resign our membership from Labour Party was a personal decision, and not because of any disagreement or crisis, but because YPP is a new life for both the old and the young.”
He added that YPP represents a genuine commitment to equity, unity, and progress, which aligns with the convictions of all executive members of LP in Chikun and Kajuru.
