Starting today(Monday), the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line will increase its daily trips from 54 to 72, according to a statement released by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority on Sunday.

The Managing Director of LAMATA, Abimbola Akinajo, announced the update via the agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the current Sunday schedule will remain unchanged.

The enhanced service means commuters will now travel between Marina and Mile 2 in approximately 18 minutes, down from the previous 25-minute journey time.

“This change implies that there will be a train every 18 minutes in both directions, allowing commuters to better plan their trips,” Akinajo explained.

In addition to the increased frequency, LAMATA is offering a 25 percent fare discount for passengers traveling during off-peak hours, which are between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. The discount is part of an effort to reduce journey times, attract more riders during less busy periods, and lower transportation costs for commuters.

The new schedules are available on the LAMATA website, at stations, and on the agency’s social media platforms.

Since its launch on September 4, 2023, the Blue Line has transported nearly two million passengers, according to LAMATA.
