60-year-old ex-teacher charged for molesting minors in Anambra

A 60-year-old retired teacher named Ike Okoye was brought to court in Awka on Wednesday for allegedly molesting two boys.

The case was heard in the Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court.

The police accused Okoye, who lives in Okpoko village, Isuofia, in Aguata Local Government Area, of molestation and committing an unnatural offence. According to Police Prosecutor, Inspector Chinyere Okechukwu, the alleged crime took place in 2013 at Isuofia.

Inspector Okechukwu stated that Okoye’s actions violated Section 197 of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Vol II of the Revised Law of Anambra State of Nigeria 1999, as amended.

Okoye pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Chief Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe granted Okoye bail in the amount of ₦200,000 with one surety of the same amount. She set the next hearing for August 21.
