The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 47 herders for criminal trespass and attempted culpable homicid following a violent invasion of the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on February 4, 2025, when a local resident, Abubakar Nabande, allegedly conspired with others to forcefully enter the polytechnic premises.

The statement revealed that the herders, armed with cutlasses and sticks, broke through the school’s fence, leading over 300 cows onto the campus. They reportedly proceeded to the staff quarters destroying stored hay meant for livestock.

When polytechnic staff and security personnel attempted to evict the intruders, the situation escalated into violence.

“One staff member, Abdullahi Muhammad Idris, was attacked with a cutlass, sustaining fractures on his right hand and leg. He is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi,” the police spokesperson confirmed.

Upon receiving the report, Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani personally led a team of detectives to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. Following investigations, 47 suspects linked to the attack were arrested and have since been charged to court for prosecution.

The Kebbi State Police Command has reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining peace, urging residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
