Delta Police Command has arrested a 41-year-old man for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl who was placed under his watch while her mother went to market.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe revealed that the incident occurred in Ogborikoko area when the suspect, who was trusted as a neighbor, took advantage of the mother’s absence to commit the crime.
“Parents, be mindful of neighbours you ask to take care of your children in your absence,” warned Edafe. “In Ogborikoko, a woman asked her neighbour, a 41-year-old suspect to take care of her children when she was going to market.”
According to the police statement, the suspect entered another neighbor’s house where he found and brutally attacked the young girl.
In clarifying earlier reports about the victim’s age, Edafe stated, “I made a mistake when I said 16 during the interview, she is 13 years old.”
The case is currently under investigation, and the suspect remains in police custody.
