A 40-year-old man, Iliyasu Musa, has been arrested for allegedly killing his ex-wife, Hadiza Sale, in Jigawa State.

The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the arrest on Thursday in a statement by its spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam. He said the suspect had been on the run since July 10, 2025, when the crime happened.

According to the police, Musa ambushed Hadiza near her house in Afasha Village late at night after she returned from the market. He reportedly hit her on the head with a stick and fled. Both had six children together.

“The suspect was finally apprehended on July 23, 2025, at Larabar-Tambarin-Gwani village, where he had been hiding,” Adam said. “He is currently undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse before his prosecution.”

In another case, the command said it arrested a 20-year-old man, Alpha Samaila, over an armed robbery incident in Sabuwar Unguwa, Roni Local Government Area.

The suspect and others reportedly stormed the house of one Abubakar Yahaya, attacked him, stabbed him with a sharp object, and stole N170,000 and a Tecno Hot 40i smartphone.

“The police received a distress call on July 21, 2025, around 4:30 am and quickly went to the scene,” Adam explained. “The victim was rushed to Roni Primary Health Care Centre and was later discharged after treatment.”

Reacting to the arrests, Commissioner of Police Dahiru Muhammad praised the efforts of officers in Aujara and Roni Divisions.

He said, “The command is fully committed to protecting lives and property. We will not allow criminals to hide in our communities.”

Muhammad urged residents to obey the law and give helpful information to support crime fighting.

He added, “The Jigawa State Police Command is committed to operating with professionalism, integrity, and diligence to create a safer society. Our renewed efforts have led to the arrest of several suspects, and we’ll continue working to ensure justice is served.”

The command also asked members of the public to help with any useful information about suspects still at large.

Adam said, “The command’s commitment to transparency and accountability is clear, as it keeps the public informed about its activities.”
