In recent times, there have been calls for the return of Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who lost and conceded defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Only last week, the former president visited Sokoto and the people welcomed him with great joy, urging him to return as president, come 2019, however, beyond the plea are cogent reasons why the man himself would not long a return.
1. No one returns to their vomit
For Goodluck Jonathan, it was a privilege serving the nation, but asking him to return, would be like going back to his vomit.
This is because he seems to have found a higher calling just after accepting defeat, he became the new face of democracy in Africa, and as such has won many accolades.
He has become more relevant on the international stage, and would rather keep aiming for higher positions in the United Nations and other bodies of great repute.
He is currently enjoying his life as a peace ambassador.
2. He is no miracle worker
The Nigerian problem at the moment is not one that will only weigh a person down, it is one that could lead to a person’s death.
If the problem does not kill you, then Nigerians themselves will kill you with complaints and curses. It is very hard to satisfy Nigerians who are very opinionated.
3. Leave when the ovation is loudest
Goodluck Jonathan could not have left at better time than this, when his government is being compared to the present government (economy wise). Many are saying that they flourished under Jonathan but are experiencing difficulties at the moment.
For all we know, Jonathan left without any blemish, there are speculations here and there, but no one can really say that this exactly is his crime. Hence, to a great extent, the Otuoke man remains a saint.
4. Family Time
One of the reasons Jonathan was not bothered about remaining in power was the fact that the position did not give him time to be with his kids, most of whom are still very young.
It would be recalled that just after the elections that led to his defeat, Jonathan flew out of the country to be with his kids.
Jonathan is a man who cherishes family and would love to spend more time with friends and the people he loves, because he is not power drunk and have proven it even in his style of governing, there is a great chance that Jonathan would not consider the offer of returning to power.
