Police operatives in Kebbi State have successfully rescued 36 people who were kidnapped by armed bandits along the Mairairai/Bena road in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Monday, Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, explained that the victims were kidnapped on December 8, 2024, while returning from their farms. The armed men had blocked the road and seized the individuals.

Upon receiving the report, a combined team of police, army, and vigilantes swiftly mobilized to the scene. According to the police, the security team engaged the bandits in a gunfight, overpowering them and forcing them to flee into the forest with gunshot wounds.

All 36 victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.

Commissioner of Police Bello Sani praised the bravery and professionalism of the security forces involved in the operation. “This success shows the resilience of our officers and their commitment to ensuring Kebbi State does not become a safe haven for criminals,” he said.

The commissioner urged security personnel and agencies in the state to strengthen their collaboration and intensify efforts to eliminate banditry and other criminal activities.

Residents have been encouraged to provide useful information to aid ongoing efforts in curbing insecurity in the state.
