Police authorities in Kenya have arrested a 32-year-old nurse, Pherine Maero, who allegedly served her two children poisoned food, which led to their death.
The incident happened on Saturday night when she allegedly called her estranged husband to “come and collect the bodies of your children.”
A watchman, Charles Akhonya, at the apartment where she lives, said the woman approached him at the gate at 3am, urging him to open the gate for the ‘husband.’
But on following them to their house, he found two children, aged seven and nine, lying dead on their bed.
Maero, who tried to stab herself in the neck, was rescued and is presently receiving treatment at a Kakamega hospital.
This is even as Kenyan police claim they are investigating the matter.
Neighbours revealed to the press that the woman has become violent since separating from her husband, adding that at one point, she crashed her husband’s car.
A top police official, Valerian Obore, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect, who is in critical condition at the hospital, will be arraigned for murder upon recovery.
The bodies of the children were transferred to the Kakamega County General Teaching & Referral Hospital mortuary.
