Efe Omorogbe, the manager of Nigerian music legend 2Baba, has shared his thoughts on the ongoing dispute between Eezee Conceptz owner Eezee Tee and his former artistes, Mercy Chinwo and Judikay.

In a video posted on his social media, Omorogbe revealed he was part of the mediation team called in to resolve the disagreement on May 13, 2024.

The mediation team included Eezee Tee’s lawyer, Mercy Chinwo’s legal team, Judikay’s counsel, and Apostle Anselm Madubuko.

Speaking about his role, Omorogbe explained, “I was invited as a music business expert to provide insight into how issues like this are typically resolved. I clarified questions on master rights and how they are handled in the music industry.”

Omorogbe pointed out that master rights, which refer to ownership of the original recordings of a song, typically belong to the record label unless otherwise negotiated. He emphasized that if an artist wants to reclaim their master rights, they must follow a buyout process.

“I explained that the process is simple,” he said. “If an artist wants their masters, a value is placed on it, negotiation happens, and they pay the agreed amount. It’s just a simple buy-and-sell contract.”

To provide further clarity, he referenced Burna Boy’s previous case with Spaceship Records, where similar industry practices were applied.

Omorogbe advised all parties involved in the dispute to adhere to standard practices to resolve the issues amicably. “For any resolution to work, there must be a clear understanding and agreement based on industry norms,” he noted.
