Veteran Nigerian singer 2Baba has named Burna Boy as the leading figure in Afrobeats, ranking him above contemporaries Wizkid and Davido.
During an interview on the *Mic On* podcast released on Saturday, 2Baba was asked to choose among the three superstars. He acknowledged appreciating songs from all but gave the edge to Burna Boy.
“I have my favorite songs for each, from all of them…But if I must be put on a spot to say something, I think Burna is on the top of the game,” 2Baba said.
When pressed on whether his ranking was based on talent and artistry, he emphasized that art is subjective. “Different people have different styles, so there’s nothing like this one sing pass. Art anyone wey e be it’s an individual one,” he explained.
He clarified that his view was not about personal wealth but measurable impact. “I don’t know their bank accounts, I don’t have any information about their personal successes…But from what I can measure from at least common sense and understanding of the music world I think right now Burna is at the top of this chain, not just in Nigeria, in Africa, in the world.”
2Baba, whose real name is Innocent Idibia, is considered a pioneer of modern Nigerian pop music. His 2004 album *Face 2 Face* and hit single “African Queen” cemented his legacy. In 2025, Billboard ranked “African Queen” number one on its list of the greatest Afrobeats songs of all time.
