Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, has downplayed concerns about the longevity of the Afrobeats genre on the global stage.
During an interview with Yaw on Wazobia FM Lagos, the veteran singer voiced strong optimism about the genre’s continued global relevance.
He maintained that, despite pessimistic views in some quarters, Afrobeats remains firmly positioned for sustained success worldwide.
The “African Queen” hitmaker attributed this confidence to the steady emergence of young talents, describing them as the driving force behind the genre’s evolution.
According to him, the continuous influx of fresh voices ensures that Afrobeats will remain vibrant and competitive internationally.
He said, “Afrobeats can never die. If you listen to some of the young Afrobeats artists now, you will agree with me that the genre is in safe hands.
“Recently, one of the young artists, Fola, remade my song ‘If Love Is A Crime.’ I really loved it. Soft, smooth vocals. It is amazing. The present crops of artists have special flows. I love their styles.”
In a separate development, Sunmbo Adeoye has spoken candidly about the challenges she encountered after marrying Pastor David Adeoye.
The mother of three disclosed that her past relationship with 2Baba led to some members leaving the church, creating a difficult period in her life.
Speaking during an appearance on The Morayo Afolabi Show hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, Sunmbo reflected on her emotional journey, highlighting the struggles she faced and how her faith played a crucial role in her healing process.
She emphasized her determination not to be defined by her past, choosing instead to find purpose in her experiences and move forward with resilience.
Sunmbo also recounted how she met her husband, noting that she never felt compelled to justify or explain her past to others.
