A 27-year-old man in Katsina State, one Shafi’u Haruna, has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend, one 14 years old Hamsiya Lawal, over a dispute on the ownership of her pregnancy.
WuzupNigeria reports that Haruna was arrested on Tuesday, 3 March 2020 following a tip-off.
The Spokesman for Katsina Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the development on Sunday evening.
He said Haruna who resides at Dorawar Natiba area in Birdigau village, Kankara local government area of Katsina state allegedly committed the crime in December 2019.
According to the police spokesman, Haruna allegedly tricked Lawal of the same address to a nearby bush where he allegedly smashed her head with a stone.
She reportedly died on the spot.
“The suspect was alleged to have killed his girlfriend sometimes in December 2019 over dispute on the ownership of pregnancy. In the course of investigation suspect confessed to have taken the victim into the bush, strangled and smashed her brain with a heavy stone killing her instantly. Investigation is ongoing, ” he said.
