A 25-year-old woman, Oluwabukola Adebayo, on Tuesday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over an alleged N800,000 fraud.

Adebayo, whose address was not disclosed, is facing trial on charges of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olagoke Adegbenro, told the court that the alleged offence was committed on October 3 at Ode-Aje area of Ibadan.

Adegbenro alleged that Adebayo, alongside others still at large, obtained the sum of N800,000 from her friend, Gbemisola Omoniyi, under the guise that the money would be used to pay the school fees of the complainant’s brother abroad.

He further alleged that the defendant failed to pay the fees and instead converted the money to her personal use.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like amount.

She adjourned the case until January 27, 2026, for hearing.
