A 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly killing his 44-year-old girlfriend, Miss Confidence Sunny, in Umuebule community, Etche Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko said in a statement on Wednesday that the suspect, also known as Power Sharp, attacked Sunny with a machete on July 30.
“After allegedly committing the crime, the suspect fled Rivers but continued issuing threats to the victim’s family, boasting that he could harm them without consequence,” Iringe-Koko said.
She explained that after the victim’s family reported the case, Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take over the investigation.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives tracked and arrested the suspect on August 15 at his hideout in Egbeta village, Edo State,” she added.
The police said the suspect is still in custody as investigations continue, adding that evidence is being compiled and he is being profiled to check if he is linked to other crimes.
