21-year-old recounts alleged torture after refusing cybercrime job in Enugu

A 21-year-old man, Junior Izuchukwu, has recounted how he was allegedly detained, starved and tortured for nearly three months after refusing to participate in a cybercrime operation he was lured to Enugu State to join.

According to The Punch, Izuchukwu was among three young men who escaped from a residential building in Enugu where they were allegedly held under inhumane conditions after being promised legitimate employment.

The other victims were identified as Joseph Ibangwu and Miracle Tochukwu. The trio were reportedly lured from Ebonyi State to Enugu with offers of work, only to discover they had been brought into what residents and rights activists described as a cybercrime ring.

The incident came to light on June 11, 2026, when the three men fled from a house located within Helius Estate along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway and cried out to residents for help.
