 21 kidnap Kogi travellers regain freedom

A total of 21 individuals who were kidnapped along the Ajaokuta-Itobe Road in Kogi State on Thursday have been successfully rescued. The rescue operation was carried out by a joint team of security personnel, including the Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilantes.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Onogwu Mohammed, the victims, mostly travelers, were taken to an unknown destination within the dense forest around the Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Governor Yahaya Bello swiftly responded to the distressing incident by issuing directives to the security agencies and local vigilantes to take immediate action to secure the freedom of the captives. 

The Chief Press Secretary highlighted that Governor Bello’s directive underscored his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the citizens and residents under his governance.

“Upon receiving report of this distressing incident, Yahaya Bello, CON, the Governor of Kogi State, promptly issued directives to both security agencies and local vigilantes to embark on immediate actions that will lead to the freedom of the captives. He said the perpetrators of this reprehensible act must also be fished out.

“The directive underscored Governor Bello’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the citizens/residents under his charge.”

Governor Bello expressed his relief and satisfaction with the outcome of the operation, commending the security operatives for their effective response. 

He reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and security within the state and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to making Kogi State one of the safest in the country.

The governor concluded by commending the security agencies in the state and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to collaborative efforts in the ongoing battle against criminal elements.
