The media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is gripped by fear over a potential coalition of opposition parties aiming to challenge his government in the 2027 elections.

Ibe’s comments were made in response to a recent statement by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who dismissed the planned opposition alliance led by Atiku and others, predicting its failure.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Ibe dismissed Wike’s assertion, claiming that the ruling camp is deliberately spreading a negative narrative about the coalition due to their growing apprehension.

He called on Nigerians to remain focused and committed to uniting for a common political goal in 2027.

Ibe said, “Nigerians should keep their eyes on the ball; they should be focused. Better days are coming, but we need to work for it, and that work has to start with ensuring that this administration is shown the exit door (in 2027).

“A united opposition is key to all of that. All of the things that are happening, that it (the coalition) is not going to work is because they are already scared, they are scared of the prospect of the coalition. Otherwise, why has that become a talking point? Whether it succeeds or not is not their business.”

When asked to evaluate President Tinubu’s performance in office, Ibe did not mince words, describing the administration as “a total failure.” He argued that the current government appears more focused on the 2027 elections than on its governance responsibilities.

“It’s all about 2027, focus on the job, focus on governance, make life meaningful and better for Nigerians, and make food affordable. Let there be security of lives and property which is the primary responsibility of any government,” he said.

Ibe concluded that the administration has failed to offer any indications of progress after two years in office, suggesting that if positive change were on the horizon, Nigerians would have begun to feel it by now.
