The Igbo community in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has rejected claims by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, that the All Progressives Congress is gaining ground in the South East, describing the assertion as misleading.

The group said the governor’s position was a clear exaggeration of the political reality in the region.

Speaking on the matter, President of the Igbo Community Association, FCT, Engr Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, stated, “President Tinubu has not done enough to deserve such an Uzodimma-engineered endorsement.”

He noted that many Igbo people still feel sidelined and excluded from Nigeria’s economic and political mainstream.
Governor Uzodimma had earlier mobilised APC stakeholders in the South East to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that such alignment would help reposition the region within the country’s political structure.

However, the Igbo community described the move as a desperate bid to manufacture support for the President.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday, Ellis-Ezenekwe said: “Igbos are not part of this endorsement. This is a sham, a publicity stunt by Uzodimma to boost his own political career.”

The community urged Nigerians to oppose President Tinubu’s re-election, accusing his administration of poor performance and a lack of commitment to solving the nation’s critical challenges.

It further declared: “APC is not popular in Igboland. It’s only Uzodimma and a few others who are trying to force it down our throats.”

The group also challenged Uzodimma’s claim that the Tinubu administration’s reforms are producing positive outcomes, insisting that the situation in the country suggests otherwise.

“The economy is in shambles, insecurity is rampant, and our children are suffering,” said Ellis-Ezenekwe, adding: “What reforms is he talking about?”

The Igbo community called on the APC-led government and President Tinubu to demonstrate accountability and confront the pressing problems facing Nigerians.

“We want to see action, not just words.
“This is not just about Igbo; it’s about Nigeria’s future,” said Ellis-Ezenekwe.
