Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed optimism ahead of the 2027 governorship election, stating that it will pose less of a challenge compared to the 2023 contest.
The governor attributed his confidence to the achievements recorded by his administration so far, noting that tangible results, rather than campaign rhetoric, would define his future political engagement.
He said the political landscape has evolved considerably since he took over the reins of government.
Otti made the remarks during the 2025 Aro Day celebration in Arochukwu Local Government Area, where he responded to increasing political discussions surrounding the next general election.
He described the rising anxiety about the 2027 polls as unwarranted and coming too early.
“2027 is still far away, but a lot of people have started killing themselves before 2027 comes.
“We are not worried about 2027 because we have a mandate to deliver to our people in four years. We’ve done 30 months, so we still have a long way to go,” Otti stated.
The governor said his administration remains committed to governance and service delivery, rather than being distracted by political manoeuvring.
According to him, the focus of his government is on meeting the expectations of Abia citizens, not on engaging in premature electioneering.
Governor Otti further said that, unlike the previous election period, his next campaign would not be built solely on promises.
He explained that the achievements of his administration would serve as evidence of his leadership.
“Just like it happened in 2023, 2027 will even be smoother, I can assure you. Why am I so confident? I’m confident because in 2023, we were selling promises, but now there are one or two things we can point to.”
Otti said there is still ample time for his government to make greater impact across the state.
He added that the months ahead would be devoted to strengthening ongoing reforms and broadening development initiatives.
