2024 budget: Northern senators lament alleged unfair treatment
The Northern Senators Forum has voiced its discontent over the projections and provisions of the N28.7tn 2024 budget, alleging unfair treatment of the Northern region.
The Senators also expressed dismay at the relocation of the headquarters of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeriaand certain departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria from Abuja to Lagos.
Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District and the spokesman for the Forum, highlighted their commitment to addressing the concerns raised by their constituents.
He stated, “We are committed to addressing the concerns and feelings of our constituents regarding certain decisions and policies put forth by the federal government – lopsidedness in the distribution and allocation of resources in the 2024 budget, as well as relocation of some federal agencies from Abuja to Lagos.”
Sumaila reassured constituents that their concerns have been taken seriously, and the Senators are actively engaging with their colleagues to address these matters effectively.
He emphasized the significance of fostering a harmonious relationship between the government and its citizens and announced their collective efforts to seek an amicable resolution within the confines of the constitution and existing laws.
“We firmly believe in the power of open dialogue and collaboration to bring about positive change for our nation,” Sumaila stated, highlighting the Forum’s dedication to advocating for the well-being and best interests of the people they represent.
He emphasized their role as a bridge between the people and the government, expressing a sense of responsibility and dedication to undertaking this task.
The Northern Senators Forum called for a united front against any move to undermine the Northern region, urging their representatives at the National Assembly to resist any lopsided allocation of funds in the 2024 budget.
The Senators vowed to champion the cause of their constituents and seek resolution through dialogue and collaboration.
