2019 ELECTIONS! Present strong candidates against Buhari rather than ask him not to contest, says Salawu
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Muftau Salawu, has advised those opposed to President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid to present a credible candidate that can match his integrity rather than asking him not to run in 2019.
Salawu, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Opinior Engineering Company Ltd, said this during an interview with our correspondent in Abuja.
The APC chieftain, who is seeking to represent the Ogbomoso North, South and Orire Constituency at the House of Representatives, however, said former President Olusegun Obasanjo had the constitutional right to ask Buhari not to run but that was where his rights stopped.
Salawu said,
“Former President Obasanjo has the right to write letters. But I am not too concerned about the letter; rather I want people to present strong candidates against Buhari rather than ask him not to contest as the Presidency.
“He has the right to contest, you don’t beg him not to contest, if you feel he is not doing well, bring up another candidate that can take him out.”
The Opinior boss maintained that the APC remained the party to beat in 2019.
