2019 ELECTIONS! ‘Ambode has underperformed but why isn’t Tinubu using the same yardstick for Buhari’

A Nigerian lady, identified as Juliet ‘Kego, has faulted the All Progressive Congress national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for supporting Buhari and not Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for the 2019 elections.

She was apparently reacting to the viral story claiming that Tinubu is not supporting the governor’s second term bid in the forthcoming elections.

In a tweet thread, @julietkego, highlighted the difference between President Buhari’s government and Ambode’s government.

She also pointed out Ambode’s area of strength and weakness adding that it’s unfortunate that he is not in the good books of his political godfather.

Meanwhile, there have been viral reports that 57 council chairmen had thrown their weight behind Tinubu’s candidate, Mr. Jide Sanwo-Olu. A move which will threaten Ambode’s re-election bid, as the APC as adopted the direct primary system.

Lagosians and other Nigerians also aired their opinions on social media. Many compared Fashola’s eight years of performance to Ambode’s saying that he has underperformed.

“Compare PMB & Ambode: Security, Education, Healthcare, Youth/Sports, Science/Technology, Human Rights/Gender Inclusivity/Issues that affect women+children (child labour/rape/almajirai), Road Construction/Other infrastructure, Tinubu supports PMB for 2nd term but NOT Ambode?.”

“Lagos State has the best-implemented policies/structures/laws re Women and Children’s Rights and a very active social service/laws+public defender office – to address Domestic Violence, maltreatment of maids, Rape, Child DEFILEMENT (most stringent penalties for paedophiles) etc.

“Ambode needs to urgently work on waste management and sanitation – the entire state is like a slum! Also, improve road construction especially in the inner-city roads. From VI/Lekki to Surulere, Gbagada & AJ city, to Apapa…the roads are really bad! Also, invest in Public Schools!

“My uncle Fashola had supported a suave, cosmopolitan, enlightened leader to succeed him but our neighbour did not want that o. The sheeple backed the Lion. And now he does not want his handpicked candidate anymore? Lagos voters na so our votes dey irrelevant to these pipu? Chai!!

“And YES, while I agree that Ambode has under-performed, & that Lagos needs new/better, why isn’t Tinubu using the same yardstick for PMB? The president has also clearly underperformed, so why are folks like Tinubu/El Rufai still supporting him? What’s changed since El Rufai’s memo??

Recall that WuzupNaija had reported that Ambode on Monday, made a public declaration for re-election in 2019 on the platform of the APC.

He said,

“In these three and a half years as your governor, I have seen visible proof that we can achieve unbelievable things when we all come together with no more than our belief in our dreams”.
