200 arrested for violating sanitation law in Kwara

Published

No fewer than 200 people were arrested on Saturday and prosecuted by the Kwara Government for violation of Environmental Sanitation Law in the state.

The state Commissioner for Environment, Mrs Abosede Buraimoh, disclosed this at a news conference in Ilorin.

Buraimoh said that the act of prosecuting environmental law offenders would not stop until the people were ready to comply with the rules.

The commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Environment, Mr. Towoju Gabriel, noted that the monthly exercise was peculiar but different.

She said that all hands were on deck to ensure high compliance.

“Our people are known to always break law, so we shall handle them the way they wanted.

“We have mobile court and security agencies on ground for absolute compliance,” she stated.

Buraimoh disclosed that plans were ongoing to extend the act of compliance to other areas in the state.

She, however, commended the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria cooperation in maintaining strict compliance during the exercise.

The commissioner urged motorcyclists to imbibe the good attitude of NURTW and RTEAN or face the wrath of the law.

She also enjoined the people of the state to complement the efforts of Gov. AbdulRahaman Abdurazaq in ensuring hygiene and neat environment and desist from dumping of refuse in drainages to avoid flooding.
