20-year-old woman arrested for killing co-wife in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman, Rukayyah Amadu, for allegedly killing her co-wife, 30-year-old Asiyah Amadu, by pouring hot water on her during a dispute.

According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, the tragic incident occurred on February 24, 2025, in Buju village, Dutse Local Government Area.

“Asiyah Amadu sustained severe burns and was rushed to Dutse General Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on March 4, 2025, at about 0900hrs,” the police statement read.

Following her arrest, Rukayyah Amadu reportedly confessed to the crime and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation.

In another chilling incident, 22-year-old newly married woman, Zainab Ibrahim, was found unconscious in a pool of blood at her matrimonial home in Warware Quarters, Hadejia LGA.

“The Hadejia Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene, where they found a deep cut on her throat. She was rushed to General Hospital Hadejia, where she was pronounced dead,” the police spokesperson said.

Authorities have commenced an investigation to track down those responsible for the gruesome killing.

Meanwhile, in Gwaram LGA, police discovered the headless and mutilated body of a 14-year-old almajiri, Bashir Adamu, along Jikas-Dabaja village.

Relatives identified the corpse and confirmed that the teenager had been missing for two days.

“The police suspect that Bashir was killed by ritualists. An investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators,” the statement added.

The Jigawa State Police Command has assured the public that it is conducting thorough investigations into all three incidents, with a commitment to ensuring justice for the victims.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies as efforts to curb violent crimes in the state continue.
